Advanced Traffic Safety and Operations Laboratory

The Traffic Safety and Operations Lab is jointly sponsored by the University and Maryland State Highway Administration. The primary focus of this lab is to develop and apply advanced technologies in contending with day-to-day congestion and in improving traffic safety in highway networks. Research projects performed by the lab range from basic human behavior study to deployment of real-time control systems for monitoring and guiding traffic during emergency evacuations. The research products and lab capabilities are used for research, teaching and training of students.
